A sole ventiquattro ore dalla nostra ultima lettera, Baghdad risponde. Diffondiamo subito e volentieri, dunque, l'ultima da "The Mafia": l'unità dell'esercito americano che ha realizzato "combat dancing in baghdad".

Come sempre, ne approfittiamo. Proponiamo un altro video del sgt. Kris B., o meglio, di "pgeleven". E' una specie di biglietto da visita di "The Mafia", realizzato alla meno peggio come è possibile fare in quelle condizioni. Il video, ma guarda un pò, si chiama "this is war".

Ricordatevi che "The Mafia" aspetta i nostri quesiti (leggi post precedente) e buona settimana!

First I will answer the 'W's for you

WHO: we are a 13 man squad in a military police company, self-nicknamed "the mafia" for no really legitimate reason, every small clique or military group needs a name.
WHEN: footage was shot between February 2007 and march 2007, in the middle of our yearlong deployment
WHERE: eastern Baghdad, within city limits
I appreciate your viewpoint on our video, that became a tertiary goal on winning hearts and minds by our actions. To be honest we were making a video in mockery of the unit before us. They had made something like what we did but it was all done within the safety of a police station, only a few seconds long, and not done to music. We decided to do it our in sector with the local populace, because as long as we were out shaking hands searching homes and cars, plus handing out newspapers, fliers and posters, why not dance here and there for 5 seconds at a time?

The video was previously only available on youtube and military.com, however some of our higher-ups found it, and needless to say theyre none too impressed at us risking our lives for that project. I do not regret our actions, and I am glad of what we did. Our friends and families have gotten a great amount of relief and comfort seeing us do things like this over here when all they see on the news is how many troops were killed today.

I am not privileged on discussing our mission and what our missions entail, but I can assure you its almost a new thing every day. When we are not out on mission we are back on our 'base' maintaining our trucks and gear and trying to find little slivers of private time to watch movies, correspond back home, and just relax. My roommate and I are working on future video projects which will probably be finished once our deployment ends in late September.

As you can see we are amateur shooters and editors, but you still get to see things from our view. Yeah it was risky, yeah it's a pain in the ass to try and dance wearing 65 lbs of gear and 2 weapons, but it helped us make this year a bit faster... im glad to answer what questions I can and I once again thank you for your interest on what we originally thought would only be something WE would understand.
