People stormed gas stations as if they were destitute, and out of anger put them to fire. At the same time, the preoccupation of some people in Iran is why did former president Khatami shake the hand of a foreign woman in Italy. So, law enforcement officials resumed their attacks on women for Islamic dress reasons and Mr. Ahmadinejad once again heralded the imminent arrival of the 12th Muslim Prophet now in occultation.

Back in Iran, he was severely criticised by the conservative press for his "immoral behaviour". In reaction, he denied the hand shaking in an statement issued by Baran institute where he is the director.
This is the state of a country that is now void of deep content and meaning, which has been replaced by superficialities. Even if we assume that Mr. Khatami did indeed shake the hand of a woman in Italy or that the hair of some women in Iran does stick out of their scarf, does God really fear these things or the fate of the country that is changing so rapidly?

We wrote and warned much about the issue of ignoring the rights of citizens. We warned that attacking parties and non government organizations will not lead to passivity and obedience, but to revolts. We warned that focusing on superficial religious principles will not make the public more law-respecting. We warned that using popular slogans and promises to drive out opposition will one day come back and strike you in the face. We warned that wrong policies will eventually put the security of the state at risk and create foreign threats. But no one listened.

One day I wrote that I will keep my silence so that realities speak for themselves. Today, these realities are speaking themselves. Realities say that many people no longer have the patience to tolerate gasoline rationing because the no longer believe in anything or any one. So how are you calling them to resist the global sanctions which are increasing by the day against this country and will eventually catch up with them?

Why are you so insensitive to the dangers that exist out there? Why is your immediate “solution” the negation of the problem?

Let’s assume that no one talks about the problems and nobody issues warnings, that the press engages in complete self-censorship and does not write anything critical about the anything. Will any of this help resolve the existing issues and problems that the public is dealing with?

These problems are like garbage that may be sitting on a carpet. By sweeping them under the rug, you are certainly hiding it, but not eliminating it. After a while the stinking smell will force you to acknowledge the existence of the garbage under the rug. A problem that can be solved with little effort cannot be solved when it reaches critical status.

I hope that the authorities of the country have learned through this gasoline rationing event that the only way to solve the complex problems facing society – problems that have been created because of the disregard for any real solutions – is to launch a national reconciliation based on equal rights for every citizen, and the acceptance of the right of every person to participate in the political and economic affairs of the country, rather than through the negation of the existence of problems or the creation of sensitivities regarding them, or the promise of the appearance of something that no one is allowed to comment on.
